A: CT Scan Of The Chest
This is a specialized X-ray of the chest and lungs. The examination will be performed at St. Paul’s Hospital, Radiology Department, 2nd Floor, Providence Building.
Preparation for this examination:
- The CT Scan requires you not to eat or drink for 5 hours prior to the appointment time. You may take your prescribed medication with a few sips of water.
- You will be asked to sign a consent form.
- You must be prepared to spend approximately 1.5 hours in the Radiology Department.
If your appointment time has been set and you are not available at this time, please notify the CT Scan Department at 604-806-8071 ASAP. Fax 604-806-8437.
A missed appointment fee of $50 applies to appointments that are not rescheduled or cancelled 24 hours in advance.
NOTE: At 8:00pm, all hospital entrances are locked except for the Main Emergency Entrance located on Burrard Street.
Patients booked for 8:00pm or later are to use only the Main Emergency Entrance. Report to the Security Desk and ask to be allowed into the building for your Radiology Appointment
B: CT Scan of the Chest and Abdomen
This is a specialized X-ray of the chest, lungs and abdomen. The examination will be performed at St. Paul’s Hospital, Radiology Department, 2nd Floor, Providence Building.
Preparation for this examination:
- Do NOT refrigerate the bottle of gastrografin.
- The night prior to the examination, pour the 10cc bottle of gastrografin into 18oz (500cc) of juice or any other non-carbonated beverage (eg water) and drink before retiring to bed.
- The day of the examination: Eat or drink nothing for 5 hours prior to the examination. Please DO NOT chew gum.
- Be prepared to spend approximately 2 hours in the Radiology Department. You will be given more to drink prior to the scan.
- You may take your prescribed medication with a few sips of fluid.
- Get your gastrografin from the Radiology Department prior to the appointment date. The department is open from Monday – Sunday 8:00am – 8:00pm.
